Sun. Ayla. The first half needs no introduction. The second is a Turkish word for the halo of light that gathers around a moon, and also a girl's name you have probably heard called across a school yard. Set them together and you have Sunayla, said sun-AY-la.
Daylight and moonlight. The loud half of a woman and the quiet one. Most of us are carrying both around by Tuesday lunchtime, and are asked more or less constantly to pick a side. Our answer runs to two words. Wear both.
Kathy, briefly
A woman named Kathy started this shop. That is the whole of the founder biography on offer, and the brevity is deliberate — what she was reacting to is a great deal more interesting than where she grew up.
The trade-off nobody should still be making
Read how women with broad feet talk among themselves for an hour and one phrase keeps surfacing: chronically underdressed. Not for want of taste. The outfit holds together beautifully until it reaches the ankles, and there it gives way to whatever was survivable that morning.
Underneath sits the same knot, over and over:
- Gorgeous footwear that has clamped down on you by noon.
- Kind, roomy footwear that looks like it was issued to you rather than chosen by you.
- Half sizes and the larger end of the run — gone first, gone permanently.
- Sizing advice that boils down to go up one and hope.
Not one of those voices is describing our boots. Sunayla is young and has earned none of them. They are here because they are the brief we work from.
Five things we hold ourselves to
- The artwork is the entire point. Every design is released as an Edition with a name of its own, illustrated rather than assembled out of search terms. The pattern travels around the whole boot — vamp, quarter panels, shaft, tongue — instead of perching on one panel like a badge.
- Sizing gets talked through, never guessed at. Describe your foot to us before you buy and we will name the size and the fit to order. Nobody here will tell an entire mailing list to go up one and see what happens.
- Room precisely where a foot wants room. Wide is graded off the same base, not a larger boot: same length, same height over the toes, and roughly thirteen millimetres of extra girth at the three points where a broad foot pushes outward: ball, arch, instep. That difference is the one most people size up to chase, and sizing up only buys length you did not need.
- What sits in the photograph is what lands in the box. Colour is matched against the shot you looked at. If a pair ever arrives looking like a different design, we want to hear about it that day.
- Nothing is made before you ask for it. Yours gets printed, cut and put together because somebody ordered it. That is slower. It is also why no size on this site ever runs out on you.
How the shop actually runs
- US 4.5 up to US 14, halves included — and each of those lengths comes in Standard or in Wide. Twenty lengths, two fits, no gaps that quietly appear at the ends of the range.
- Print on demand, all of it. No stack of finished boots sits anywhere waiting to be claimed, which is precisely why the size you need is always orderable.
- Roughly a week and a half of making, then the journey. Five to ten business days go on building your pair; transit is added after that. The arithmetic per country is on Shipping & Delivery, laid out before you pay rather than after.
- One free size swap on every order, within thirty days of delivery. Should the pair turn out faulty, you choose between your money and a fresh pair. All of it is written down on Return & Refund.
- A human reads the mail. cs@sunayla.com, answered inside one business day as a rule, Monday to Friday.
What you will not find here
- A permanent sale. Prices that drop every fortnight are simply prices that were never honest. Ours hold.
- One star rating stretched across the whole catalogue. A number averaged across every Edition in a shop says precisely nothing useful about the single one you happen to be looking at.
- Claims we cannot put a document behind. If we have not verified something, you will not read it on this site — not in a headline, not in small print underneath one.
Wear both
