Wide Fit Guide

Wide, down to the millimetre

A second form, drawn round a broad foot from the start. Not a bigger number in a new name.

Your length stays put. The room arrives sideways.

Where boots go wrong on a broad foot

Four complaints kept surfacing in what broad-footed women write to one another.

One. The front of the foot gets pressed flat

"I need wide width boots... anything even slightly narrow HURTS."r/widefeet

When your knuckles come out broader than the form a boot was built over, the upper has nowhere to go. Breaking them in changes nothing: there is nothing to break into.

Wide: the loop at the knuckles gains 0.51 in, the flat measure 0.20 in.

Two. Buying a bigger number to buy breadth

"My feet are the length of an 8 and the width of a 12."r/widefeet

Every shop gives this advice, and it swaps one trouble for another. A bigger number is longer, not broader.

Wide: holds the Standard length at every size.

Three. The rise that no lace will close over

"the instep is very tight I struggle to get my foot in and the length is long"review of a competing printed boot, 3 stars

Breadth is not only sideways. Plenty of broad feet stand high through the rise, and that is where a boot has to shut.

Wide: 0.51 in more girth over the rise. Measured space, not hoped-for.

Four. A broad foot has no slack to spare

"I could fit into their boots a couple of years ago... they are not wide. They are roomy though."r/widefeet

Feet spread over a long day and shift across a life. A broad foot registers it first, having no slack to absorb it.

Wide: the extra girth is that slack. Measure late in the day and let that reading decide.

Clearance over the toes reads the same in both fits at every size: 1.12 in on the smallest pair, 1.46 in on the largest. Length never parts.

Heel girth is the one column without a fixed amount, climbing from 0.37 in at the smallest size to 0.71 in at the largest, so the 0.47 in above belongs to US 8 alone. As a share it stays behind the knuckles everywhere, which is what keeps the back of the boot holding on to you.

Our sheets begin at US 5.5. The two sizes under it grade off the same form at the same rate, but we hold no recorded figures for them and will not invent any.

These are the figures of a form, never of a human foot.

Match your own foot to these columns and it will send you wrong. Take your length from the size chart instead.

Never buy length to buy breadth

Buying a bigger size against changing the fit One foot. Two ways to give it room. spare length US 9 Standard longer than you need and still tight US 8 Wide your length, kept room where you need it

Order Wide at the size your tape gave you, not above it.

Every question about the Wide fit

Do I need Wide, or is Standard fine?

Wide is probably yours if any of this rings familiar:

  • the length is right, yet the little-toe side burns or goes numb
  • you have bought a size up for years, purely to get across
  • a bunion carries your broadest point past where most shoes are cut
  • the laces will not meet over the rise without hurting

If none of it lands, stay with Standard. It is cut more generously than most fashion boots already.

I sized up for room before. Which size do I order now?

Come back down to your measured size. Tape says US 8 and you bought the 9 for breadth? Order Wide at US 8. Both fits match in length; the difference is all girth.

Is this a D? An EE? What letter is it?

None, on purpose. A D from one maker is an EE from the next, and no letter says a word about the rise, where most of the trouble sits. Real measurements travel better, and ours are all on this page.

My rise is high. Will a boot like this close over it?

Girth over the rise is 0.51 in bigger, and it is measured space rather than give. If you have owned a boot that suited every part of your foot except the part obliged to shut, that is the whole point.

I have bunions. Does Wide help?

Wide puts its room in the zone a bunion occupies: 0.51 in more girth, 0.20 in across the flat. Length holds, so nothing pushes you into the size-up trade.

How your foot will feel is not ours to promise. Measure both feet late in the day, then mail the two numbers to cs@sunayla.com. Somebody will tell you straight.

I buy men's shoes to get the width. Must I carry on?

No. Men's shoes hand you breadth and the wrong proportions with it: a broader heel, a different rise, more length than you asked for. Wide is a women's form, broadened only where a broad foot runs short.

Which sizes does Wide come in?

US Women's 4.5 through 14, every half size, the run Standard has. None can run out: every pair begins after its order.

And if the fit still misses?

Then it gets put right. You get one change of size on an order, two sizes either way, inside 30 days of the boots landing. You do not have to add anything for it.

Return & Exchange Protection only decides who pays the courier: say yes to it on the product page and both journeys are ours; say no and they are yours. Wide too roomy? We move you across to Standard. A second change is chargeable, quoted first. Full wording on returns and refunds.
