Sedona Socks

A whole serape blanket, narrowed down to fit a leg.

The colours in it

• Rust and burnt orange: the widest bands, and the ones that carry across a room
• Mustard gold: sitting against the rust and warming it further
• Deep red: narrow, darker than the rust, doing the shading work
• Denim blue: the cool one, and the reason the whole thing does not read as one long fire
• Dark green and brown: the two that hold the ends down
• Cream: run out into fine pinstripes, three or four at a time, keeping every wide band off the next one

The bands run the length of the leg and carry straight on over the foot, so nothing cuts across the middle of you. And they are not flat colour: a woven grain is drawn into each one, the slubby uneven kind you get on a blanket that was made on a loom, so the gold goes lighter and darker along its own length and the rust does the same.

This is the one where both socks match

Sedona works differently from most of what we make: both socks carry the same stripe field, because a stripe only does its job if it keeps going. The toe is black and so is the heel; the stripes go all the way up over the cuff. Women's, a single size.

Each pair, five to ten working days in the making, is printed once an order comes in. That is why you can come back for these in November and find them exactly where you left them, and why the pair on your feet was cut for you and nobody else.
