Celeste High Top Sneakers

A whole night sky, on a shoe you can lace up on a Tuesday morning.

The high side of one shoe carries the pair's centrepiece: a gold sun with a human face, eyes open and looking out, resting against a silver crescent moon whose face is turned away and closed. Moon phases run in a small arc above them, and a dreamcatcher hangs below with feathers trailing off it in gold and silver. The other side is emptier on purpose — a slim crescent, a scatter of gold stars, constellations joined up in fine dotted lines across a deep navy that clouds and clears like real weather. Down at the heel and around the collar, a mandala is worked into the navy a tone deeper, so there is something to find on the parts of the shoe most people never decorate.

Pick what the shoe underneath does

White. White sole with a thin black line running around it, white laces, white rubber over the toe. The navy print sits up bright against all that pale, and the shoe reads lighter on the foot — the version that looks like summer.

Black. Sole, laces and toe bumper all go black, and the whole shoe closes in around the artwork instead of framing it. The print stops being a picture on a sneaker and starts being the entire shoe. Metal eyelets stay silver either way.

About the size run, since it is the usual sticking point

The run goes from US 4.5 up to 14, and every half size along it is really there. If you are a 7.5 or a 10.5 or an 11.5, you are not settling for whatever number the shop happened to carry, and you are not buying a size too big and trusting thick socks to take up the slack. Half sizes are the ones that get dropped first when a range gets trimmed, so they are the ones we kept.

Nothing gets printed until somebody picks a size and a colour, which is exactly why every size and every colour is still there whenever you come back for them. The trade is simple: you wait, and then you wear it.
