Four things before you look at the picture

• Both faces are printed, and they are not the same picture — one holds the jewelled dragonfly, the other lets two line-drawn ones go
• Handles of black woven webbing — matte, unfussy, so nothing on the bag competes with the emerald
• A zip closes the opening — one black tab up at a corner draws it shut
• The green is not one green — a mandala is drawn through it in gold line and a deeper shade, and it only surfaces when the bag catches the light

Now the picture. A dragonfly opens its wings across a gold medallion: filigree wings flooded with turquoise, two round amber eyes, and a segmented gold body set along its length with turquoise stones. The medallion turns behind it in rings of dots, dashes and small teardrop petals, and a line of gold beads runs from above its head down past the end of its tail, so the whole thing sits on the green like a brooch someone pinned there.

The other face lets them go. Two dragonflies in nothing but gold outline, wings shaded a soft green, drift across the panel, and beneath them a spray of wild grass leans over — narrow leaves tipped in turquoise, slim buds standing on stems of their own, gold beads floating loose in the space around it.
