Iris Leather Boots

All that color, and the boot is still black.

Iris carried the rainbow between worlds. This is her boot — black from collar to sole, with the whole spectrum laid over it in neon line.

One side holds the mandala. Magenta and violet petals at the rim, a ring of blue inside them, then green-teal, and in the center a gold disc worked in fine beadwork around a small red lotus with a lit core. Read it rim to core and the color goes violet down to red, which is exactly the way the other side runs, top to bottom.

Because the other side is where the seven live, stacked in one straight column down the shaft. The violet crown first, its petals fanning around an open middle. A purple third eye between two side petals. A blue throat ringed in fine points. A green heart built from two crossed triangles. A gold solar plexus, an orange sacral, and at the bottom the red root — a triangle set inside a square. A gold starburst hangs just above the crown. These are the chakra symbols as the old diagrams draw them, in the order they belong in: you know what the line says, and most people simply see the color. Each toe cap gets its own lotus in the same neon line, opening wide across the front, magenta at the outer petals, cyan and blue standing up behind them, a green-and-gold heart in the middle.

The black beneath all of it is not flat. A whole mandala is printed into the ground one tone deeper — petals, arches, dotted lacework running up the shaft and over the vamp — and it surfaces only where light rakes across it. Gold stars sit scattered on top, most no bigger than a pinhead. Hardware stays quiet: plain black cord for the laces, eyelets in dark gunmetal, and a black webbing loop at the heel for pulling them on. The sole goes two-tone underneath — black around the rim, gum brown where the lugs meet the ground.

Two skins for the same drawing

• Premium Vegan Leather — microfiber, matte in the face and close in the grain. Matte is what black this deep needs: no glare skidding along the shaft, so the neon keeps its edge and the shadow mandala stays readable. Cleaning is a wipe.
• Top Grain Leather — hide, from a cow, with everything that means. Weightier in the hand, keeps heat close, and the more you walk in it the less it is boot-shaped and the more it is foot-shaped.

Three things to settle before you order

1. Standard or Wide. Both are right there in the fit menu at the top of this page. Choosing Wide takes one tap.
2. The half step. The size list begins at US 4.5, ends at 14, and skips no halves along the way. If you have spent years rounding up to whatever the shop had, you can stop.
3. Toe room. The front is cut round and generous, so the wide part of your foot has somewhere to go.

The unglamorous part

The footbed is cushioned foam and it is comfortable immediately — no breaking-in period stands between you and the first long day in them. It also lifts out whole, which is what matters if you carry your own insoles from shoe to shoe. The print is sealed under a water-based coat; that is a dull sentence with one practical result, which is that you can open the box indoors and nobody has to leave the room. And the lug sole is cement-bonded: heat activates the bond, pressure holds it while it sets.

Every Iris is printed and assembled after the order lands. Production runs five to ten working days, then it ships.
